HEART w/optional WINGS LAPEL PIN

Materials For One -
            Small amount red size 10/bedspread weight cotton thread
            Optional: Small amount gold/gold metallic knit-cro-sheen
            or white/silver knit-cro-sheen for wings
            small safety pin
            Size 5 steel hook

Gauge - isn't really very important; lapel pin can be a bit
            larger or smaller, without changing the overall
            outcome.

PATTERN STITCHES
Chain
Slip Stitch (sl st)
Single Crochet (sc)
Double Crochet (dc)
Half Double Crochet (hdc); YO, insert hook in space indicated,
pull up loop (3 loops on hook), YO and draw through all three
loops on hook.
Treble Crochet (tr); YO twice, insert hook in space indicated,
YO and pull up loop (4 loops on hook), (YO and draw through 2
loops on hook) 3 times.

Note: Heart starts from bottom

HEART

Row 1: With red, ch 4, 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, (4 dc),
         ch 3, turn.

Row 2: Dc in same st, dc in each st across, 2 dc in last st,
         (6 dc), ch 3, turn.

Row 3: Dc in same st, dc in each st across, 2 dc in last st,
         (8 dc), ch 3, turn.

Row 4: Dc in same st, 2 dc in next st, dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc
         in each of last two sts, (12 dc), ch 3, turn.

Row 5: Dc in same st, dc in each st across, 2 dc in last st,
         (14 dc), ch 3, turn.

Row 6: Dc in same st, dc in each st across, 2 dc in last st,
         (16 dc), ch 1, turn, DO NOT FASTEN OFF

Row 7: Sl st in first dc, skip 2 dc, 9 dc shell in next st,
         skip next 3 dc, sl st in next two sts, skip 3 dc, 9 dc
         shell in next st, skip 2 dc, sl st in next st.
         Fasten off, weave in ends.

WINGS (optional)

Attach metallic knit-cro-sheen over 8th dc on 5th Row,
working away from top of heart over the same dc post;
join thread with sl st, Ch 4, tr, ch 4, sl st, ch 3, dc,
ch 3, sl st, ch 2, hdc, ch 2, sl st.
Fasten off, secure ends.

Opposite Wing:
Attach knit-cro-sheen over 6th dc on 5th Row,
working away from bottom of heart over same dc post:
join thread with sl st, ch 2, hdc, ch2, sl st, ch 3, dc,
ch 3, sl st, ch 4, tr, ch 4, sl st.
Fasten off. secure ends.

Sew safety pin to back of heart.



                    Size of heart is approximately 2 inches tall
