I was diagnosed with Polio at age four. The experience left
my right arm partially paralyzed from my shoulder to
my elbow. Despite this, I taught myself to crochet early in 1978
and crocheted when I had the chance. In 1996, I found some
crochet-themed mailing lists, and as a result, I used to
crochet pretty much non-stop! Now, I alternate between
crocheting, knitting, and sewing to relieve stress on my arm.
I crocheted for a variety of reasons. At times I crocheted
for myself, other times I crocheted with the hopes of
selling the finished items so that it would offset the
cost of supplies! :) I crocheted gifts for friends
friends and family whom are always appreciative.
Slowly I had ventured into the area of Starfish.
What is a Starfish? Hopefully, this anecdote I heard will
illustrate:
There was a native walking along a beach. This native
was picking up starfish that were stranded on the beach
at low tide and throwing them back into the ocean.
A stranger coming down the beach stopped the native and
ask him why he was throwing the starfish back into the
ocean. Because, the stranger rationalized, there were
thousands of them on the beach and there were hundreds
of beaches all over the world with starfish stranded on
them. What difference did the native think he could
make? The native just stooped down and picked up a
starfish and threw it back into the ocean, and said
"It makes a difference to that one!"
In other words, a Starfish is basically any worthwhile project
that means something to you.
It was always in my heart to "do" something for others
but it took me a long time to make up my mind to put
it into action. I never did anything on a grand scale
but it became important to me to try to make a
difference even if it was something small. So now...

and to a lesser extent, due to my limitation....

If you are walking along a virtual beach sometime and
want to know where you can find a Starfish, here are
some places to visit.

Life is like a field of newly fallen snow.
Where I choose to walk, every step will show.
